We are more than just your local CSA
Section 1. Introducing Hope Homestead Farms
Our mission at Hope Homestead Farms is to connect with the local farmers and our community. Helping deliver fresh produce to you and less loss and travel for the farmer. Everyone will benefit by being a part of this process, whether selling your own homemade goods through Hope Homestead Farms and/or receiving produce, products and so much more that is both local and fresh. However, our true passion is in helping others with our Hope Homestead Outreach program, which will allow us to share fresh produce with those in need our community.
A. Becoming a Part of Hope Homestead Farms
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a relationship between our network of farms and you as our customer. Rather than simply purchasing food, our customers become “members” of this CSA farm who receive a portion of the farms’ harvest.
Our CSA runs for 24 of weeks, from June to November with special promotions in December. Members are responsible for showing up at either of our pick-up sites each week or every other week (depending on membership), to pick up your share of the freshly harvested produce and goods. You will generally receive vegetables/fruits/cut flowers/eggs/etc. or a combination of the above. Detailed information regarding pick-up is discussed below in Section 3. Variety and quantity may vary as described below in Section 2.
B. The Products We Expect for 2020
The chart below outlines some of the vegetables/fruits/cheese/etc we hope to deliver and when you may see them in your share. This chart is based on our best estimate, but of course weather, pests, and other events will affect actual production.
A. Sharing in the Risk of Crop Failure
We promise to do our best to provide you with a bountiful share each week. The quantity of produce and goods, however, may vary from week-to-week/month-to-month/season-to-season due to extreme weather, insects, or other production factors despite our best efforts. By joining our CSA, you are agreeing to share the risk of crop failure with us and other members. However, this is one of the main differences with Hope Homestead Farms and many other CSAs, by partnering with many local farms instead of being just one farm we can reduce the risk of crop failures. In the unlikely event of a crop failure, our procedure is as follows:
If only a small portion of crops fail, we compensate for the failed crops by filling your share with other crops grown by one of our partnered farms that are ready for harvest at that time. We may cover for a crop loss by buying in from other local farmers. This may not be a feasible option for all crops because of cost or widespread failure.
B. Sharing in the Reward of Crop Surplus
In addition to our CSA, our farm sells to farmers markets, restaurants, grocery stores, local schools, and/or wholesale distributors. We balance priority of the CSA with our other markets. This allows us to select a consistently full and diverse share to our customers while avoiding over-delivering any one product. In the event of a crop surplus Hope Homestead Farms will pass that surplus onto our members.
Section 3. Picking Up Shares
You are responsible for picking up your share each week or every other week depending on membership, from your drop site. Place a check mark next to the drop site you would like to use from the list below.
You are responsible for observing our pick-up site rules, which are as follows:
1. Pick up your share within the time frame stated. Although we deliver high-quality produce to the site, it will decline quickly if not picked up in time.
2. Be respectful of our pick-up site hosts’ property.
3. Follow additional rules posted at your pick-up site regarding [parking/use of certain entrances/boxes].
If you cannot pick-up your share, you must arrange for someone else to pick it up for you. You are responsible for explaining the pick-up location and procedures to your substitute. Please inform us of your substitute via email or phone. We will not hand over anyone's share to someone simply saying they are there to pick up for someone else. If you wish to change your pick-up site, you must submit the request in writing via email or letter no less than 1 week before your pick-up day.
We take the safety of your food seriously, however we do expect our customers to adhere to proper food safety precautions. For your added protection, wash all produce and eggs before eating and put frozen/refrigerated products in the freezer/refrigerator as soon as possible.
Section 4. Type of Memberships
We have several levels of memberships to serve whatever the needs of you or your family. Choose from a Family Share which typically provides for a family of 2 to 4 people while a Single Share provides for 1 to 2 people. Also choose from a weekly or bi-weekly membership depending on how often you want your share available. In addition you may choose from several add-ons such as a dozen farm fresh eggs delivered with you share or a Holiday add-on which includes something special for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Section 5. Member Fees
By selling membership in advance of the growing season, CSA reduces the burden of up-front costs for the farmer. Your membership fees provide us with money to purchase seed and equipment before the season starts, and we appreciate your commitment. We have several different memberships to chose from. Place a check mark next to the share type you would like from the list below as well as any add-ons.
