Our 2023 season is winding down
We started a CSA!
The concept for the CSA began in Japan in the 1960s in response to concerns with pesticides and where their produce came from. Fast-forward to 1985 and the first CSAs were being introduced in the US. Community Supported Agriculture, or CSAs have become a popular way for those of us seeking fresh, healthy, locally grown and seasonal food directly from a farmer.
Farmers offer a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a container of fruits and/or vegetables (and more). People interested in eating healthier, often better tasting produce, purchase a share (aka a "membership") and in return receive a package of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.
In a typical CSA this membership agreement creates many rewards for both the farmers and yourself as you partner yourself with those providing what you eat.
For the farmer they get to spend less time marketing their food, before their long days begin tending to their crops, receive money for their work quicker than they typically would.
For the consumer you get to eat the freshest food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits no store can deliver, exposure to new vegetables and new ways of cooking, kids typically favor food from "their" farm - even veggies they've never been known to eat and having a connection with the local community.
It's an easy enough idea to grasp, but the impact has been tremendous. Nearly a 100,000 families have joined CSAs all across the country, now is the time for you to take back the reigns of what your family is eating.
However, at Hope Homestead Farms we aren't the typical CSA.
We at Hope Homestead Farms want to take CSAs to another level by offering many other benefits not typically found, which is why "we are more than just your local CSA!"
